Nigel Smith of Darren Smith Homes wins prestigious NHBC Pride in the Job Award for a second time

A Mirfield-based site manager has been recognised on the national stage for raising standards in home building, after winning the industry’s best-known quality award for the second time.

Nigel Smith, site manager at Darren Smith Homes, was named Supreme Winner (Multi-storey) at the NHBC Pride in the Job Awards 2025 for his work at East Thorpe Court, Mirfield.

The award was announced at a ceremony at the London Hilton on Park Lane. The competition attracted around 8,200 entrants from across the UK.

Now in its 45th year, Pride in the Job is widely regarded as the house-building industry’s top benchmark for site management.

Winners are assessed across six key areas, including consistency, attention to detail, leadership, technical expertise, interpretation of drawings and specifications, and health and safety.

Accepting his award, Nigel said: “I am absolutely delighted to win this award for a second time.

“Pride in the Job has become the benchmark for exceptional site managers. Judging for the awards is rigorous, with assessment across six key areas: consistency, attention to detail, leadership, interpretation of drawings and specifications, technical expertise and health and safety.”

Cassandra Codling, senior regional director at NHBC, added: “Congratulations to Nigel Smith from Darren Smith Homes, Supreme Winner of the 2025 Pride in the Job Award.

“They are an inspiration and should be very proud of the quality of new homes they are delivering.

“Thousands of outstanding site managers have made their mark on the industry in the 45 years Pride in the Job has been running.

“This continued focus on excellence is vital to support the Government’s 1.5 million new homes target and to ensure that all housing is built to the quality owners and occupiers should expect.”
