Mirfield beer shop celebrates first birthday this weekend

An independent craft beer shop on Nettleton Road marks its first birthday this Sunday, 14th June.

Sup opened a year ago, set up by five friends who have known one another for more than 30 years.

The shop is run by directors James Avison, Daniel Storey, Sam Lawson, Aaron Whittam and Tom Coates.

Over its first 12 months, Sup has stocked more than 650 different drinks from dozens of breweries across the UK and beyond, bringing a craft beer offer to a town that did not have one before.

The business has built up a regular customer base of craft beer drinkers and created three part-time jobs in the town.

More recently, the shop launched Sup Points, a loyalty scheme for returning customers, and made its debut at the Hopton Food & Drink Market.

Director James Avison said: “We didn’t take it for granted that this would work.

“When five old friends open a shop together, you hope people give it a go, but you can’t assume they’ll come back.

“Mirfield has, and we’re grateful for that!

“We’ve worked hard this year and we’re proud of where we’ve got to, but it’s the people coming through the door each week that have made it.”

The shop will mark the occasion over the weekend and is open as usual.
