Hundreds flock to Hopton Woods Food & Drink Market as young photographer Maya captures the day

Hundreds of visitors attended the very first Hopton Woods Food & Drink Market, enjoying a day of local food, entertainment, shopping and sunshine — all captured through the lens of a talented teenage photographer.

The event at Wheatley Park was organised by sisters Stephanie and Katherine James, founders of Twisted Events, and brought together a wide variety of local traders including hot food vendors, artisan makers, food and drink stalls and a popular pop-up bar.

Photographs from the event were taken by 14-year-old Maya Dolby, who is currently studying GCSE Photography under the guidance of Lisa Cuthbert from Two Seven Eight Photography.

Maya spent the day capturing the atmosphere of the market, from busy food stalls and live entertainment to families enjoying the attractions in the sunshine.

The family-friendly event also featured a petting zoo, small fairground rides and live music from Brad Mack, creating a lively atmosphere throughout the day.

Many traders reported exceptional sales, with several selling out of stock before the event ended.

As part of the day, Twisted Events introduced a “Market Trail Passport”, encouraging visitors to explore multiple stalls for a chance to win a spring hamper prize. The winner of the hamper was Denise Meadows from Heckmondwike.

Stephanie James from Twisted Events said: “We’re absolutely overwhelmed by the support the event received.

“The turnout exceeded all expectations, and it was fantastic to see so many people supporting local businesses and enjoying the atmosphere together.

“We’d also like to give special thanks to Maya for beautifully capturing the day through her photography.”

Lisa Cuthbert from Two Seven Eight Photography, said: “Maya has shown a real natural talent for photography and did a fantastic job capturing the atmosphere and community spirit of the event.

“Opportunities like this are invaluable experience for young creatives.”
